Attending the 2008 Training Camp

July 29th, 2008 by Rick

For the third time since it moved from Bryant College to Foxboro, my daughters and I attended the New England Patriots’ Training Camp. And for the third time, we’ve had a lot of fun while watching our favorite players get ready for the upcoming season.

Sitting in the wet endzone

We took a lot of pictures of the training camp which you can see here!

The HallI just can’t get over how much the Krafts have transformed the stadium and its surroundings. Patriots Place looks incredible. There’s construction everywhere; a hotel and research center being built. I got a quick peek into the unfinished “Hall” and so far, it looks a lot like the Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio with a rotunda-style entrance and a huge staircase. I can’t wait until it opens!

Every time I visit Gillette Stadium now I am stunned by how different everything is since my days at Schaeffer Stadium. I know I say this a lot but I can’t thank the football gods enough for giving us Robert Kraft. As Patriots fans, we are lucky to have the best owner in the league.

Super Bowl Retrospective

April 22nd, 2008 by Rick

It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to look at this website.

Just the other afternoon someone asked me if I was over the Super Bowl yet. I’m not and I don’t think I will be until the Patriots play another meaningful game.

To give you some perspective, just the other day I watched Super Bowl XX on NFL Network for the first time since 1986. 22 years it took for me to be able to watch so much as highlights.

Something just wasn’t right on that night in February. I can’t believe more people haven’t noticed this, but one thing that stuck out in my mind was how the team entered the field at pre-game. Maybe it was burn-out, maybe cockiness but there was no fire. And I think that’s a large part of the loss.

I’m not trying to take away anything from the Giants. They were more impressive than any team we faced during the year, including the Week 17 Giants. They had an answer for everything the Patriots tried to do.

The moral of my story is… no, I’m not over it… yet.

Ride ‘em Brady! Patriots take on Colts

November 4th, 2007 by Rick

Ride em Brady

I’m getting sick of the Patriots being labeled the bad guys in the NFL. I know I’m biased but I don’t see it. The holier-than-thou attitude of the Colts is really getting on my nerves to the point that I’m starting to not like Tony Dungy, for whom I used to have high regards.

I think the Patriots are going to enter the RCA Dome and leave with a win. Looking back at the AFC Championship game last year, no disrespect to the Colts, but the Patriots had the big game in San Diego, the team had the flu, and you could see how drained the team was in the second half. Despite all of this, the Patriots STILL almost pulled it out with their fourth AFC Championship in six years.

Today’s key to a Patriots victory falls on Lawrence Maroney’s shoulders and how well he picks up yardage. Marvin Harrison’s going to play, there’s no doubt in my mind – he’s one of the toughest and I doubt he’s going to warm the bench in this one.

My prediction for today – the Patriots are going to win by four touchdowns (pray to our Lord Vince Lombardi). Patriots 61 – Colts 14

Go Pats!

Bullshit-gate

September 14th, 2007 by Rick

The recent camera scandal has infuriated me. I’m not trying to justify going against NFL policy and rules but I’m so sick of people trying to take away the success of the Patriots in the last few years. This includes people in the media, the NFL, and my morning coffee shop!

If this spying on signals from other teams made that much of a difference don’t ya think the Patriots would be undefeated since 2001? I feel you still have to go out there and play the game – catch, pass, run – and execute. Every team in the NFL employs some type of way to decipher the opposing teams signals to gain that slight edge the game and any team that denies it are the real cheats. Not that I’m accusing, but don’t you think it’s odd how the Colts can pay players like Manning, Freeney and Harrison boatloads of cash, they never have to take pay cuts, but the team is always far below the cap? As if there isn’t any unseen cap maneuvering there? I do think the Colts are a great organization but hey, if we’re talking about fudging the rules here, maybe there’s more than meet the eye there?

Today on ESPN, Donovan McNabb was asked what he thought about the scandal. He said he thinks it doesn’t really make any difference at all. Then he jokingly asked if he gets a ring now. HA. Now that’s a classy, no bullshit guy. Philadelphia’s Brian Westbrook agreed. It seems the teams and players that are the most outspoken on the matter are the ones that the Patriots have beaten in important games in the Belichick era.

Now, finding out that this began with an official Jet’s complaint has shown me a lot about Belichick’s former protege. I feel Eric Mangini is a slime. Dear Bill Belichick, in the next Jets game, show no mercy. Run up the score no matter what it takes.

And to the Kraft family, thank you for giving me the Patriots I’ve always dreamed of when I was a kid. And thank you to all the players for their unselfish devotion to the team and the New England community, and that INCLUDES Bill Belichick.

Who the hell is Dante Wesley?

August 8th, 2007 by Angela

It seems the Patriots are staying on top of everything this offseason. Now that Chad Scott is done for the year, they’ve brought in some fresh meat, six-year veteran Dante Wesley to sure up the secondary. Wasting no time, he was traded and at practice today. So, who the hell is he?

He was originally drafted by the Carolina Panthers in 2002 and even played *gasp* against the Patriots in Super Bowl 38. Mostly contributing on special teams, he spent last season with the Chicago Bears and appeared in Super Bowl 41. Hmmm, maybe he’s like some team good luck charm.

Donte Stallworth – the forgotten big name offseason acquisition

August 7th, 2007 by Angela

Today, Tom Brady got to try out his other new toy, wide receiver Donte Stallworth. Stallworth was recently lifted off the PUP list (the acronym “PUP” always gives me a chuckle) and worked with Brady today. Since April, I’ve been so consumed with Randy Moss fever, I’d almost completely forgotten about Stallworth! What an offseason!

Finally, after what feels like a trillion years, I will finally be able to get a taste of real Patriots football on Friday night when the Patriots take on Tampa Bay.

Uh oh – Chad Scott on IR, out for the year

July 31st, 2007 by Angela

Chad Scott
Chad Scott on Friday, prior to his afternoon practice injury. I hope I didn’t jinx him with this photo.

Scott to IR. Uh oh. The Patriots already waining depth at cornerback has just gotten a little more shallow. Judging by the level of enthusiasm, progress, and development of Ellis Hobbs, I am sure he can rise to the occasion. Can Randall Gay remain healthy for the season? That’s the question.

Geez, Asante. We get it, you’re angry. Just sign your one-year deal already!

Troy Brown signed

July 11th, 2007 by Angela

Troy Brown I have discussed my love for Troy Brown, I have pleaded with team officials to bring him back, and According to Boston Globe’s Mike Reiss, I may be getting my wish. He’s been a Patriot for as long as I’ve been a fan and now we’ll be getting another year of good ol’ Troy!

From the Mike Reiss story:

Wide receiver Troy Brown and the Patriots have agreed to financial terms on a one-year contract, according to a league source. The final step to officially finalize the contract will be working out language within the deal.

Brown, who has been recovering from offseason knee surgery, had been working out at Gillette Stadium over the offseason.

Woo hoo!

Troy Brown
